Writing Paper

How do the courses work?

How are they organised?

Each academic year there are three cycles of courses. Courses run for 3 months with each month building on the last. This is to help with continuity and to allow students time to build a familiarity with the online class they are part of. It also allows me time to guide each student and help them develop through the end of month writing tasks. Each of the three courses within an academic year are different so a student can stay with Wordcraft for as long as they'd like

Classes never have more than 25 students in them. Gmail settings can be easily adjusted by the email account holder so only first names are shown when interacting in the classroom.

If you are new to Wordcraft, you are welcome to pay for one trial month to see if it is the right fit. After this, all courses are booked as 3 month blocks.

How are the courses structured?

Courses run through Google Classroom so students will need access to a computer with an internet connection.

Each lesson includes:

  •  A reading section with comprehension and language analysis questions.

  •  A spelling, punctuation, and grammar quiz that is marked automatically.

  •  A writing exercise that includes a video of me teaching and modelling.

Each week:

  • Students are encouraged to share short pieces of their writing and thinking from the lesson for everyone to read. I then post whole class feedback based on the student work shared to help guide students for the next lesson.

Each month:

  • The last lesson of the week sets them up for a longer piece of creative writing that is sent to me privately. This is returned with detailed feedback.

How much parental involvement is required and do courses cater for different abilities?

Parental Involvement:

The course has been structured so that most self-motivated students can complete the lesson with minimal to no support. Answer sheets for the reading section are provided if parents wish to familiarise themselves and sit with their child.

What level do these courses cater for?

Students need to be secure readers if you plan to have them complete the lessons with no parental support.

With parental support the lessons would be suitable for most levels. If you are unsure, please email me to discuss your child's needs further.
